How to Post Bail at the Fourth Avenue Jail in Phoenix

If you need to post bail for someone at the Fourth Avenue Jail in Phoenix, there are a few things you need to know. First, the jail is sometimes called the Madison Street Jail because it's located at Madison and Fourth Avenue. Second, if you're posting bail after hours, you'll need to press the button at the double doors in the northwest corner of the building. This will notify the on-call officer that you're there to post bail.

The office where you post bail is located on the first floor of the jail, to the right of the main lobby. The hours for posting bail are 6:30 a.m. to 1:45 p.m., with a break from 1:45 p.m. to 2:45 p.m., and then again from 9:45 p.m. to 10:45 p.m.

When you go to post bail, you're not allowed to use cash, credit card, or check. You have to use three different payment methods: postal money order, cashier's check, or Western Union money order.

Here's more information about each type of payment:

Postal Money Order: You can only get this type of money order at the post office. Make sure it's made out to "MCSO," which stands for Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.

Cashier's Check: You can get this type of check from your bank, but make sure it's made out to "MCSO." Get a business card with a phone number from the person you got the cashier's check from because the jail will call to verify that it's a real check.

Western Union Money Order: You can get this type of money order at 7 11, Safeway, or Fry's grocery stores. Again, make sure it's made out to "MCSO."

If you go to Fry's, you can get the money orders in increments of $750. Anything over $3000 will need a state ID, driver's license, or passport. If you're posting bail for more than $2999, a manager may have to approve it.

You can pay for the money order with cash or debit card (not credit card) at 7 11. For Safeway or Fry's, you can pay with cash, debit card, or credit card.

Once you have the money order, take it to the bail window on the first floor of the jail. The person posting bail will need to fill out a form with their name, address, and phone number.

After you've posted bail, the Fourth Avenue Jail will release the person you bailed out within two to four hours. In rare cases it may take up to 24 hours. They'll be released through the southwest exit of the jail, located at Fourth Avenue and Madison Street.
